Johnny Eshleman, a 2009 player on the San Jacinto Baseball Team and drafted by the Giants, out of Mt. San Jacinto, got a taste of Big League action on Saturday, as he was called up to participate in a Major League Spring Training game between the Giants and Oakland A's.
Eshleman, was notified on Saturday morning, that he was going to get an opportunity to be a part of the Giants' Team for that day and saw action as a pinch runner in the ninth inning of the game.
Eshleman, had played the 2008 and 2009 seasons for Mt. San Jacinto, as their shortstop, before being drafted by the Giants in the eleventh round of the 2009 Major League Draft. Johnny reported to Salem, in the Northwest League last summer and suffered a back injury, which cut his season short. The Giants saw enough of Eshleman's abilities to invite him to Instructional League in the fall and to give him a taste of Big League action on Saturday. Eshleman, becomes the first Mt. San Jacinto player to have played in any type of Major League game!
Mt. San Jacinto is extremely proud of Johnny's accomplishments and want to wish him the best of luck in the future! We might also mention that another former "Jac" player, B.J. Salsbury, was also drafted by the Giants in 2009 and had an outstanding summer league and fall instructional league with the Giants! Congratulations guys! Keep up the great work! We are proud of both of you!
