Nestled in the Hemet Valley, approximately an hour and a half east of Los Angeles, is the acclaimed Mt. San Jacinto Community College. The college serves an average enrollment of over 11,000 students from Beaumont, Banning, Hemet, San Jacinto, Perris, Temecula, Elsinore, Moreno Valley and surrounding areas.
Mt. San Jacinto, is a fully accredited two year college, sending many students each year to four year colleges and to numerous jobs in and out of the state. Mt. San Jacinto College has a complete athletic program which includes the major sports: football, men and women's basketball, baseball, women's softball, golf, tennis and women's volleyball. MSJCC has a tradition of developing athletes who go on to perform at both the collegiate and professional level.
The surrounding area provides a diverse geography that includes recreational lakes, mountains, desert and wide-open spaces. There is freeway access to ocean beaches, skiing and cultural offerings in San Diego, Los Angeles and Orange County. Weekend recreational opportunities are a few hours away in Las Vegas, Arizona and nearby mountain resorts. Local theater productions and art galleries provide year-round entertainment, including the famous Ramona Festival Pageant!
Baseball Coach, Steve Alonzo, has been the head baseball coach at the college since 1986, and has distinguished himself as one of the premier college coaches in Southern California. Coach Alonzo has sent many of his players into professional baseball and numerous four year institutions in the United States.
Coach Alonzo is the recipient of numerous coaching awards, including the Coach of the Year Award in 1987. Coach Alonzo has also been awarded the prestigious Howard Lowder Memorial Award for coaching excellence in 1993, 1998, 1999 and 2006. Coach Alonzo is highly respected and has also seen duty in the professional ranks, working with both the Montreal Expos and the Boston Red Sox!
In 2006, it became apparent to Coach Alonzo that to stay competitive, he would need to expand his program. He sent out the call for qualified coaches to assist him and has secured a talented set of coaches, both energetic and experienced. The Mt. San Jacinto Eagles' Baseball Team, now has a full compliment of coaches to better prepare the team for the season and the players for their future aspirations.
The Mt. San Jacinto College baseball field has always been considered one of the most picturesque facilities in baseball and new projects are on the way! The staff has big plans for the stadium, to include state -of-the-art structures and improvements.
MSJCC, is proving to be the community college of choice, affording students the best academic education as well as the highest quaility baseball instruction possible!
