Come Soar With The Eagles!

Eagles Make It Two In A Row Over Vikings!

Overall Record:                7-2

Conference Record:         2-0

The Eagles got off to a quick start in their quest for a second Foothill Conference Championship, as they downed the Barstow Vikings, 12-3, in the first game, of what was suppossed to be a double header.

Mt. San Jacinto, once again let their bats do the talking, as they jumped out to a quick 6-1 lead in the first inning. The Vikings would counter with single runs in the second and third; but a three run fifth for the Eagles, in a seven inning game, proved too much for Barstow, as San Jacinto won their second Conference game and improved their League record to 2-0, 7-2 overall.

Chris Houston had a great day at the plate, driving in three runs, with two doubles. Randy Bruce was at it again, as he pounded out three hits in four at bats. David Ricker and Greg Anzures, each had 2-4 days at the plate, with Ryan Diaz going 2-3 and Brant Alonzo having a solid 2-2 on the day! The Eagles pounded out a total of 16 hits and played sound defense, as they committed only one error.

Scott Simmons, started on the mound for the Eagles and was relieved by Daniel Borst in the fifth. Simmons recorded his second win.

The Eagles, did play a second game against Barstow, but the game was called after nine innings, when darkness made it unable to continue.  The second game will only be continued, if the game would have a bearing on the final league standings.  If this game is continued it would be played at San Jacinto, at, or near, the end of the season.

Eagles Hammer Barstow 17-5 !

Overall Record:                 6-2

Conference Record:          1-0

When you talk about Mt. San Jacinto Baseball, the first word that comes to mind is offense and the Eagles showed that they have plenty of offense again this season, as they downed the Barstow Vikings, 17-5, in the opening league game for both teams!

This game was never in doubt, as the Eagles jumped on Barstow pitching in the top of the first inning for three runs and then proceeded to score, two, six, one, one and four runs in each of the next five innings. Barstow managed to tally one run in the bottom of the second and then had to wait until the bottom of the eighth to score their next run.  The Vikings did manage to mount a little rally in the bottom of the ninth, as they scored three meaningless runs, to close out the scoring and fall to Mt. San Jacinto 17-5!

Just about every Eagle hitter joined the hit parade, as nine players had one or more hits on the afternoon. David Ricker, went 4-5, with two doubles and a home run. Randy Bruce was 3-5, Chris Houston, went 3-4, with a home run and four RBI. Ryan Shumway, was 3-4 on the afternoon with a double, home run and two RBI. Garrett Caldwell was 2-4, with an RBI. Greg Anzures went 2-3 at the plate and added an RBI, while Joe Riley and Brant Alonzo each went 2-5, with Alonzo swatting out two doubles and driving in one and Riley, smacking one double and driving in one.

Starting pitcher Josh Peters, recorded his third win of the season, and his first league win, as we went seven innings, allowing only one run on three hits, while walking none and striking out eight. Brent Brown relieved Peters in the eighth and gave up one run on two hits, while walking two and striking out one. Daniel Williamson, came in to close out the game in the ninth, throwing one complete inning, while allowing three runs on three hits, walking none and striking out one.

Mt. San Jacinto will continue their series with Barstow on Saturday at Mt. San Jacinto, as they will host the Vikings in a double header. The first game is scheduled for 11:00 A.M., with the second game to follow.

Eagles Make It Two In A Row !

Overall Record:         3-2

Conference Record:   0-0

Mt. San Jacinto, made it two wins in a row, as they downed the previously unbeaten Citrus Owls, 6-3 on Tuesday. San Jacinto fell behind early, as the Owls managed to push across a run in the bottom of the first, to take a 1-0 lead. The Eagles bounced back in the second to tie the score at one and then added three more runs in the top of the fifth, to take a 4-1 lead. Citrus, managed to score a run in the bottom of the sixth and another in the seventh; but that was as close as they would get as San Jacinto tacked on a run in the eighth and another in the ninth to secure the 6-3 victory and improve their season record to 3-2.

Starting Eagles' pitcher Ryan Clark, had an impressive outing as he limited the hard hitting Owls to three runs on eight hits, while walking one and striking out three. Scott Simmons got the save as he tossed the ninth inning, allowing no runs on no hits, walking none and striking out none. Clark's record is now 1-1 for the season

The Eagles had four players with multiple hits as Garrett Caldwell, Chris Houston, Randy Bruce and Travis Hansen each had two hits on the afternoon. Joe Riley and Brant Alonzo, also had a hit apiece for San Jacinto. Caldwell and Houston, each had doubles for San Jacinto, while power hitting Randy Bruce, tacked on a solo home run in the eighth for The Jac!  Garrett Caldwell accounted for three RBI, while Bruce drove in two.

The Eagles will hit the road on Thursday, February 18, as they make the long trip to Imperial Valley, to face the Arabs, in a 2:00 P.M. tilt. The Eagles will host Imperial Valley on Tuesday, February 23, at 2:00 P.M., before opening Foothill Conference Play at Barstow, on Thursday, February 25, at 2:00 P.M.

Eagles Defeat Mounties 5-4

Overall Record:           2-2

Conference Record:    0-0

Nothing has come easy for the Eagles the first three games and Thursday's game against Mt. Sac., was no different as San Jacinto, took a 5-0 lead into the ninth inning only to see the Mounties score four in the top of the ninth and leave the tying run on third, as San Jacinto got the final out, to preserve a hard fought 5-4 win.

San Jacinto, had everything going for them through the first eight innings of play. Starting pitcher Josh Peters was never really in trouble and was handling everything that Mt. Sac could throw at him.  The Eagles' bats were also hot as they pounded out twelve hits and managed to score one run in five of the nine innings; but it was almost all for naught, as the Mounties bats came alive in the ninth to give the Eagles a scare.

Peters threw eight complete innings in recording his second win of the season. The only inning that Peters stuggled any was in the first; but he got out of that without giving up a run.  Peters gave up only five hits and walked two, while recording eight strikeouts and allowing no runs enroute to his win.

Raul Gonzales, came in to pitch in the ninth and got a quick out on a ground ball; but had some trouble after that, allowing three runs on two hits while walking one. Daniel Williamson, relieved Gonzales and also found the going a bit tough as he allowed two hits and a run, although he did record an out on a ground ball. The game was left up to Kyle Jones, who had to find a way to get one more out! Jones managed to record the final out of the game, on a strikeout, with the potential tying run only ninety feet away. Peters was credited with the win and Jones got the save for the Eagles.

San Jacinto's bats were loud, as they pounded out twelve hits over the course of the game. Greg Anzures, had a big day at the plate as he went 3-4. Lead off hitter Joe Riley, also played a huge role in the Eagles' victory as he went 2-3 and scored two runs. Chris Houston had a 1-4 day; but his one hit accounted for two RBI. David Ricker was 1-2 on the day with an RBI, while Travis Hansen and Brant Alonzo each had 1-3 days, with both players driving in a run and Alonzo, scoring one himself. Garrett Caldwell and Ryan Shumway, also had one hit apiece for the Eagles, with Shumway scoring a run. Lance Lutz, was 1-4 on the day.

The Eagles now stand at 2-2 on the season and will travel to Citrus College on Wednesday, for a rematch with the Owls. The game is scheduled to begin at 2:00 P.M.

Overall Record:                  1-2

Conference Record:           0-0

Comeback Falls Short As Eagles Fall To Citrus

The Eagles were down 5-2, heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, when they staged one of their "trade-mark" Jac innings, tallying four runs to take a 6-5 lead.  The comeback would prove to not be enough as the Owls rallied for three runs in the top of the final frame to go on to win the game 8-6 and hand San Jacinto their second consecutive loss and their second loss of the season.

Alex Garza, started on the mound for San Jacinto and went three innings, giving up five runs on only two hits, while walking three. Scott simmons, Josh Peters and Kyle Jones followed Garza to the mound. Josh Peters was credited with the loss for San Jacinto.

Errors proved to be the undoing of the Eagles as they committed four errors which contributed to three of the Owl's runs.

The Eagles bats came alive, after a one game absence, as they pounded out eleven hits. Garrett Caldwell went 3-3, Chris Houston had a 4-5 day, scoring one and driving in one. Joe Riley went 2-4 with an RBI, while Ryan Diaz and Brant Alonzo each had a hit. Alonzo had two RBI and scored once, while Diaz and one RBI and scored once.

The Eagles will play their next game on Tuesday, Feb. 16, at home against Mt. Sac. at 2:00 P.M.

Overall Record:                    1-1

Conference Record:             0-0

Saddleback Hands Eagles 9-1 Drubbing !

The last time the Eagles had faced Saddleback, it was in the Super Regionals, of the State Playoffs.  The Eagles managed to defeat the Gauchos that day, to eliminate Saddleback and allow Mt. San Jacinto, to advance.  On Thursday, it was a different story as Saddleback came out and defeated the Eagles, on Eagle turf, to hand the Eagles the first defeat of the season.

For a time, it looked as though the Eagles would take the Gauchos, as San Jacinto jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the first. Unfortunately for San Jacinto, that would be the only run they scored and Saddleback would tally three in the second, one in the sixth and a big "five-spot" in the eighth, to down Mt. San Jacinto 9-1.

The normal Eagle offense was absent, as they tallied only five hits as compared to fifteen for Saddleback. Matt Palmer, had a solid day at the plate going 2-4 and driving in San Jacinto's lone run. David Ricker, Joe Riley and Alex Araiza each had hits for The Jac.

Ryan Clark, started on the hill for San Jacinto, allowing five runs on eleven hits, walking one and striking out two. Justin Robinson, Kyle Jones, Daniel Williamson, Raul Gonzales, Danny Borst and Brent Brown, each saw action on the mound for the Eagles. Clark was credited with the loss.

San Jacinto will next play Citrus, at San Jacinto, on Saturday.

Eagles Squeeze Past Mesa 2-1

Overall Record:                       1-0

Conference Record:                0-0

San Jacinto has always had close games with Mesa College, but this game was almost too much to endure as it took a typical "Jac" comeback in the top of the ninth, to secure a 2-1 San Jacinto victory in the opening game of the season for both teams!

Sophomore starter Josh Peters, went eight solid innings, allowing five hits, while walking one and striking out seven to gain the win. Scott Simmons, saw ninth inning relief work for the save, striking out two of the three Mesa hitters in the final frame.

The game was scoreless entering the fifth, when Mesa tacked on their only run on a squeeze play to give them a one to nothing lead. Mesa's pitching was solid and for a while, it appeared that the one run Mesa lead would hold up. Unfortunately for Mesa, they must not have heard of the famous "Jac" innings; because the top of the ninth proved to be Mesa's undoing!

Freshman second baseman, Matt Palmer, lead off the inning with a home run blast to right field, to immediately even the score at one.  First baseman Garrett Caldwell singled and was pinch run for by Chris Houston. Devin Greco then singled to advance Houston to third. Mesa managed to strike out the next hitter Alex Ariza for the first out of the ninth. With one out, Travis Hansen drove a sacrifice fly to the outfield, which enabled Houston to tack on the go ahead run and secure the 2-1 win.

San Jacinto will host Mesa on Saturday, February 6, in a single game starting at 12:00.
