Come Soar With The Eagles!

Eagles Eliminated From State Playoffs 7-1

Final Overall Record:               35-13

Conference Record:                  20-4

Final Playoff Record:                 4-3  (Finished in Top Four in Southern California and Top Eight in the State)

The Eagles' season came to an abrupt end on Sunday, as Mt. San Jacinto fell to number one ranked Orange Coast 7-1, to end the Eagles' hopes of a State Championship. There is no doubt that the three straight days of travel and the Eagles having to fight their way back through the losers bracket contributed to the defeat; but it should be said that they lost to a very good Orange Coast team!

The fact that the Eagles had to win five games, in order to secure a birth in the State Championships meant that the Eagles were playing with a depleted pitching staff. Never the less, the Eagles put up a good showing and at one time were down only four to one.

The Orange Coast pitcher was very effective as he limited the Eagles to only five hits, one being a solo home run by Drew Madrigal.  Other then the homer, San Jacinto could only manage four more singles and that, cuppled with the fact that Orange Coast didn't walk anyone, nor hit anyone, made it virtually impossible for San Jacinto to get anything going.

Orange Coast jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the fist and tacked on another run in the third to go up 4-0. Madrigal got his home run in the fourth, to allow the Eagles to get within three; but three more runs for Orange Coast in the seventh, secured the 7-1 victory.

Michael Crain, got the start for the Eagles and did an outstanding job. Although the Pirates hit the ball against Crain, there was only one ball hit with authority.  Crain went two and two-thirds innings of work, allowing four runs on eight hits, while walking none and striking out one. Crain, had seen very limited action during the season and showed outstanding control during his stint. BJ Salsbury, pitched the remaining five and a third innings, giving up three runs on five hits while walking two and striking out four.

San Jacinto's offense was stymied as they could muster only five hits, two of them coming in the ninth.  Anthony Smith went 1-4, as did Johnny Eshleman and Garrett Caldwell. Madrigal was the only Eagle hitter to get multiple hits as he went 2-4, with an RBI and a run scored, both his RBI and run, were as a result of his home run.

The Eagles' season has now officially ended.  The Eagles finished the season ranked in the top four in Southern California and in the top eight in the State.  It was a fantastic year and the Eagles would like to thank all of the people who supported us throughout the season.  We hope you enjoyed watching us as much as we enjoyed performing for you?  We will look forward to next year and see if we can't take our season one step further?

Eagles Take Two To Advance To Super Regional Finals!

Overall Record:                35-12

Conference Record:          20-4

Playoff Record:                   4-2

The Eagles had a difficult task ahead of themselves on Saturday, as they had to win two games, against two strong Orange Empire Teams, in order to advance to the finals of the Super Regionals and that's exactly what they did, as they downed Saddleback College 11-6 in game one and then handed Cypress College a 10-9 loss in the nightcap! Saddleback, had defeated the Eagles earlier in the season and Cypress, had beaten the Eagles in game one of the Super Regionals. The twin killings, knocked both Saddleback and Cypress out of contention for the Super Regional Crown and allowed San Jacinto, to continue on their quest!

In game one, the Eagles were down 1-0 after the first inning; but came storming back to score three in the second and four more in the third, to take a commanding 7-1 lead. The Gauchos would inch closer in the fourth as they tacked on three runs to narrow the score to 7-4, but San Jacinto's relentless attack would add an additional two runs in the sixth and two more in the eighth to put Saddleback away for good!

Drew Madrigal went nine strong innings for the Eagles and picked up the win, allowing six runs on five hits, while walking three and striking out five.

Every San Jacinto starter got at least one hit! Johnny Eshleman had a big day at the plate going 3-5, with a double and two RBI. Justin Wybenga and Ryan Shumway, each had 2-4 days, with Wybenga scoring once and driving in one, while Shumway scored once and drove in two. Anthony Smith, Drew Madrigal, Garrett Caldwell, Deven Greco, Josh Ray and Ryan LeFevre, each had a hit for San Jacinto. Smith, Madrigal, Caldwell, Greco and LeFevre, each scored once, while Ray crossed the plate two times. Caldwell, Ray and LeFevre, each had two RBI, while Greco had one Run Batted In. Eshleman and Ray had a double apiece for San Jacinto.

Game two was a real "nail biter", as the Eagles, once again, had to come from behind to pull out the victory. The game was a see-saw affair, with Cypress drawing first blood and taking a 1-0 lead after one. San Jacinto came back with five  in the second to capture the lead 5-1. The third and fourth innings would see Cypress chip away and tie the game up at five at the end of four. San Jacinto went up 6-5 with a solo run in the fifth. Cypress regained the lead in the seventh by scoring four to take, what looked like, a commanding 9-6 advantage heading into the bottom of the seventh. After retiring the first Eagle hitter in the seventh, Garrett Caldwell singled, Cypress then recorded another out, before Josh Ray added another single and up to the plate came Randy Bruce. Bruce proceeded to hit a MONSTER SHOT to right center field that cleared the fence on a line and drive in three runs, tying the score at nine. Cypress went quietly in the top of the eighth; but in the bottom of the eighth, Johnny Eshleman lead off the inning by getting hit by the pitch. Eshleman stole second and was driven home with a clutch single by Drew Madrigal, tacking on the tenth run and giving the Eagles the victory.  Anthony Martinez, did an outstanding job of pitching the final two and a third innings of work as he allowed no runs on no hits, while walking two and striking out two.  Martinez, was credited with the win.

Jacob Negrete started on the hill for the Eagles and went two and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs on five hits, walking three and striking out one. Josh Peters threw a strong four innings allowing three runs on four hits, walking two and striking out four. Robert Byers and KC Campbell, each threw in the seventh but could not account for an out as Byers gave up two runs on one hit and walked one, while striking out none and Campbell walked one hitter. Martinez came in to relieve Campbell in the seventh.

Garrett Caldwell went 3-4, scoring twice and driving in two. Josh Ray was 3-5, with a double, scoring twice and driving in three. Ryan LeFevre and Randy Bruce, each had two hits in the game, with LeFevre scoring once and driving in one and Bruce accounting for three RBI, with his home run blast! Bruce also scored twice. Anthony Smith, Drew Madrigal, Deven Greco and Justin Wybenga each had a hit for San Jacinto. Smith had an RBI and run scored, Madrigal drove in one and Justin Wybenga drove in a run with a double.

The Eagles will be playing in the finals of the Super Regionals on Sunday.  The first game will pit San Jacinto against Orange Coast in the double elimination event.  Orange Coast will enter Sunday's game undefeated, which means that San Jacinto will have to defeat the Pirates twice, if the Eagles are to advance.  The first game is scheduled for 12:00 P.M. at Orange Coast.  If the Eagles win game one, a second game will follow immediately after the first, to determing a Super Regional Champion.

Eagles Falter Against Cypress In Super Regionals 6-0

Overall Record:                33-12

Conference Record:          20-4

Playoff Record:                  2-2

The Eagles handed themselves a difficult task as they were beaten by Cypress 6-0, in the first round of the State Super Regionals and will now have to win four games in a row, if they hope to advance to the State Finals.

The Eagles actually played a very good game; but just couldn't seem to get any hits as they managed only three, two of which were doubles, en- route to their defeat! After the first two innings, the Eagles hit the ball hard; but every ball struck, seemed to be right at a Cypress' fielder. Cypress, on the other hand, seemed to find the holes with every ball that they hit, as they pounded out elven hits for the game.

The Eagles never threatened in the game as they left only five runners on base. Although the loss was disappointing, San Jacinto played a solid game defensively and received good pitching from BJ Salsbury, as only one hit out of the eleven was struck hard.

Randy Bruce and Devin Greco, each had doubles in going 1-3 and 1-4 respectively. Drew Madrigal tallied the other San Jacinto hit, a single, as he had a 1-3 day at the plate.

BJ Salsbury did another fine job on the hill for the Eagles, as he pitched eight complete innings, allowing six runs on eleven hits, while walking only one and striking out nine.

The Eagles are now in a do or die position as they will take on the loser of the Saddleback v. Orange Coast College game, which was being played after San Jacinto's game.  The tournament is a double elimination format. Tomorrow's loser will be eliminated from the tournament. San Jacinto will be playing at 11:00 A.M. at Golden West College.  If San Jacinto does win tomorrow's first game, they will play a second game at 4:00 P.M., which will be against the loser of the winners bracket game, which will pit Cypress against the winner of the Saddleback v. Orange Coast game.

Eagles Advance In State Playoffs With Spectacular Comeback 12-11 !

Overall Record:                  33-11

Conference Record:           20-4

Playoff Record:                    2-1

It should have never come to a series game three; but it did.  The Eagles could have easily taken the first game of the double header, as they lost by one run 8-7, after having left fourteen runners on base and two times, left the bases loaded with less then two outs. As hard as the Eagles tried to drive in runs, they always seemed to fall short and the result was a  game two loss. It appeared that there was a carry over in game three, as once again the Eagles struggled to drive in runners and found themselves down 10-3, going into the bottom of the sixth. The Eagles generated a little rally in the bottom of the sixth; but could muster only one run, so they went into the seventh, down 10-4 and things not looking good.  San Jacinto's half of the seventh, started innocently enough as Drew Madrigal laced a single to center and then the parade started as Madrigal's single was followed by singles from Garrett Caldwell, Josh Ray, a walk to Deven Greco, a line out by Randy Bruce, a single by Justin Wybenga, one by Travis Hansen, an error on a shot by Anthony Smith, a double by Johnny Eshleman and another single by Drew Madrigal.  When the dust had settled, the damage had been done as the Eagles had scored eight runs on seven hits and taken a 12-10 lead. Cerritos did manage to push across a run in the top of the ninth; but it was not enough as San Jacinto toppeled the Falcons and advances to the second round of the State Playoffs!

Game two of the series was a barn burner, and as was mentioned above, should have been won by the Eagles. Cerritos had jumped out to a 5-0 lead, only to see the Eagles, storm back in the top of the third with six, to go ahead 6-5. Cerritos tied it in the fifth at six. The Falcons added one in the seventh and another in the eighth, to go up 8-6. Deven Greco, hit a solo home run in the top of the ninth to close the gap to 8-7. The Eagles managed to get a runner on, following Greco's homer; but left him stranded as the final two outs were recorded.

The Eagles hammered out fifteen hits in game one and were lead by Josh Ray, who had a 3-4 day, including a triple which scored two runs. Ray also scored once himself. Devin Greco and Justin Wybenga, each had 2-4 games, with each player scoring once  and driving in one. Greco, had a solo home run in the ninth for San Jacinto. Johnny Eshleman, Drew Madrigal and Jeff Bunch, each went 2-5. Eshleman and Bunch each had doubles. Madrigal had an RBI and scored once, as did Bunch, while Eshleman had one RBI. Anthony Smith and Ryan LeFevre, each had singles for San Jacinto, with LeFevre scoring one time.

Drew Madrigal was the starting pitcher for San Jacinto, going six innings, giving up 13 hits and six runs, walking two and striking out eight. Losing pitcher Robert Byers went two-thirds of an inning, allowing one run on one hit, walking two and striking out one. Anthony Martinez, releived Byers in the seventh and went one inning, giving up one hit, allowing one run walking two and striking out one. Josh Peters finished the game for San Jacinto, going a third of an inning, allowing no runs on one hit, walking none and striking out none.

In game two, the Eagles bats came alive late as they pounded out thirteen hits, seven of them coming in the seventh inning. Johnny Eshleman was 3-5, with a double, driving in three and scoring once.  Deven Greco, was 2-2 and scored three times. Justin Wybenga went 2-4, driving in one and scoring once. Drew Madrigal was 2-5, with two RBI and a run scored. Anthony Smith was 1-4, with three RBI and two runs scored. Garrett Caldwell was 1-5, with a run scored, Josh Ray went 1-5 with an RBI and a run scored and Travis Hansen went 1-1, with an RBI and a run scored.

Perhaps the unsung hero of the game was Billy Howlett, who has seen limited time behind the plate this season; but as a result of an injury to Jeff Bunch, Howlett had to step up and catch the final two innings of the game and did a great job!

Jacob Negrete, started for the Eagles on the mound and went five and a third innings of work, giving up eight runs on ten hits, walking none and striking out four. KC Campbell relieved Negrete in the sixth; but was unable to record an out as he allowed two runs on three hits, while walking none and striking out none. Winning pitcher, Josh Peters, relieved Campbell and went three innings of solid work, giving up one run on five hits while walking none and striking out five. BJ Salsbury came in to save the game in the ninth, going two-thirds of an inning, giving up no runs on no hits, walking none and striking out one.

The Eagles next contest will be the Super Regionals, of the State Championship Series.  The teams, times and locations had not been announced at the time of this story.

Eagles Down Cerritos In Game One of Playoffs 13-7 !

Overall Record:                32-10

Conference Record:          20-4

Playoff Record:                   1-0

It took three innings for the Eagle bats to come alive; but when they did, they exploded for six, three, one and three more runs, in consecutive innings, to come from a deficit of 1-0 and go on to defeat Cerritos College, 13-7, in the first game of the State Playoffs.

All Foothill Conference Pitcher of the Year, BJ Salsbury, started for the Eagles and went five and two-thirds strong innings, before tiring and having to give way to Josh Peters. The heat was a major problem for both teams as the Falcon's pitcher, was only able to go three and two-thirds, before showing the effects of the heat! Salsbury, who normally throws deep into games and leads the State in complete games, was exhausted after his stint. In Salsbury's five and two-thirds innings of work, he allowed six runs on nine hits, while walking only one and striking out three. Salsbury was credited with the win, giving him a season record of 13-1. Salsbury was releived in the sixth by Josh Peters, who went one and one-third innins of work, allowing one run on two hits while walking none and striking out none. KC Campbell, came in to pitch the final two innings for San Jacinto and allowed no runs on no hits, walking two and striking out none.

Accounting for the fifteen hits that the Eagles got on the day, were Anthony Smith and Randy Bruce, who each had three hits. Smith drove in three and scored twice, while Bruce drove in one and scored twice. Deven Greco went 2-3 at the plate driving in one and scoring twice. Garrett Caldwell also had a 2-3 day, driving in one and scoring one. Drew Madrigal was 3-5, driving in three and scoring one. Johnny Eshleman, Josh Ray and Jeff Bunch each had one hit apiece for San Jacinto. Eshleman scored once, while Bunch scored twice. Josh Ray had a solo home run accounting for one of his two RBI on the afternoon.

The Eagles will take on the Falcons again on Saturday, in the first of a possible two game series. The Eagles lead the best two out of three series 1-0 and will need to win one of the next two to advance.  If a second game is necessary, the game will start immediately following the completion of the first game. Drew Madrigal, is scheduled to pitch game one on Saturday.

Eagles Fall To Vikings 8-3

Overall Record:               31-10

Conference Record:        20-4

Maybe it was the fact that several Eagle players are fighting injuries? Maybe, the Eagles felt that the regular season ended last Saturday, when they clinched the Conference Title? Perhaps it was that the Eagles received news just prior to the game that Chaffey, had been defeated by COD, giving the Eagles the number one seed? Whatever the reason, it was apparent from the start that San Jacinto wasn't prepared to play their best baseball against Long Beach City, as the Vikings defeated San Jacinto, to end the regular season. The loss brought the Eagles' regular season record to 31-10 and set the stage for the first round of the playoffs, which will begin next weekend.

The game was marked by some highlights as Johnny Eshleman set the all-time school record for most hits in a season, as he compiled 75 hits, to surpass the previous record of 72. A dubious accomplishment was realized by Garrett Caldwell, who set the all-time school record for being hit by a pitch, as he was plunked for the nineteenth time this season.

San Jacinto jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the fourth; but that was quickly erased as the Vikings came back to score four in their half of the fourth. The Vikings added two in the fifth, one in the sixth and one in the seventh to complete their scoring. San Jacinto attempted a come back in the fifth as they tallied twice, narrowing the score to 6-3, but that was as close as they could get, as they went silently in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings.

The Eagles suffered defensively, committing five errors, four of which lead to runs. Offensively, the Eagles were quiet as well! The usually potent bats of San Jacinto, could only manage to pound out eight hits, with the only extra base hit being a double by Drew Madrigal in the seventh.

Multiple hit players for San Jacinto were Johnny Eshleman 2-4 and Jeff Bunch 2-4 with a run scored. Drew Madrigal, Josh Ray, Devin Greco, Justin Wybenga and Randy Bruce, each had singles for San Jacinto. Garrett Caldwell scored twice for the Eagles.

Starting and losing pitcher, Drew Madrigal, went four complete innings allowing four runs on four hits, walking one and striking out three. Madrigal was followed to the mound by Robert Byers, who threw one inning, allowing two runs on one hit, walking one and striking out none, Anthony Martinez, one inning pitched with one run allowed on two hits, two walks and no strikeouts, Michael Crain, who threw one inning allowing one run on three hits walking none and striking out none, Cory Robbins who went two-thirds of an inning giving up no runs on no hits, walking none and striking out none and Raul Gonzales who pitched a third of an inning giving up no runs on no hits, walking none and striking out none.

The Eagles next game will be the first game of the State Playoffs.  At this writing, the seeding had not been determined.  The Eagles should find out by Sunday evening, who their opponent will be.  It is almost a certainity that the first round of the playoffs will be played at Mt. San Jacinto.

Eagles Handle Marauders Twice To Take League Title!

Overall Record:              31-9

Conference Record:   20-4 (League Champions!!!!) CONGRATULATIONS GUYS - YOU EARNED IT!!!!!!!  YOU'RE THE BEST!!!!

Mt. San Jacinto, had to win two games, to have a shot at the Conference Title and to assure themselves of a State Playoff spot and that's exactly what they did, as they handed Antelope Valley, dual losses, winning the first game 12-1 and taking the second game 25-8!  The two Eagle wins, combined with a Chaffey loss to San Bernardino, gave the Eagles a share of the Foothill Conference Crown, with both teams having four losses and Chaffey having three more games to play. The Conference Crown marks the first title for San Jacinto since 1989.  The two wins, also increased the total wins for the season to 31, surpassing by a large margin, the former record of 26.

Game one saw BJ Salsbury, record his twelfth win of the season and go undefeated in Conference play. Salsbury went the distance, increasing his State leading statistic for complete games. Salsbury started the game a little shaky; but managed to settle down as he went seven complete innings, allowing only one run on seven hits while walking only one and striking out six.

San Jacinto's bats were once again hot as they hammered out ten hits, including a double for Devin Greco and one for Garrett Caldwell. Josh Ray added a solo home run for the Jac, which went out on a line to deep left center field. Caldwell, had a great first game going 3-4 and driving in three and scoring twice. Greco, was 1-2, with three RBI and scoring twice. Ray went 2-4, including his two RBI homer and scoring three times. Johnny Eshleman moved closer to the school record for hits in a season as he went 2-4, scoring once and driving in two. Anthony Smith, Drew Madrigal and Devin Greco, each had a hit for the Eagles. Smith scored once, while Madrigal and Greco each tallied twice. Madrigal's hit accounted for two RBI for San Jacinto.

The first game win improved the Eagles' season record to  30-9 and their Conference Record to 19-4.

Game two, was a tale of four games as San Jacinto fell behind early by a score of 3-0. The Eagles stormed back in the third to score eight and take what appeared to be a commanding 8-3 lead.  In the top of the fifth, Antelope tacked on five to knot the score at eight, only to see the Eagles score twice in the bottom of the fifth and add ten more in the sixth, four in the seventh and one more in the eighth, to trounce the Marauders 25-8!

To say the Eagles' bats were hot, would be an understatement! San Jacinto hammered 28 hits and saw them hit around the order twice in the game. Every Eagle starter got at least one hit and several Eagle players had multiple hits!

Leading the "hit parade" for San Jacinto was Anthony Smith, who went 4-5, with a double, scored three times and drove in four. Johnny Eshleman continued to pound the ball as he went 3-6, including a double, scored three times and drove in two. Jeff Bunch continued to roll as he went 3-7, with a double, scored three times and drove in three. Drew Madrigal had a triple, in going 2-4 and driving in three. Garrett Caldwell added a double in his 2-4 day and scored twice. Josh Ray went 2-4, scoring twice and driving in one. Adrian Huizar had a perfect day at the plate going 2-2 with a double and scoring twice. Chris Houston also had a flawless day as he went 2-2 and drove in one. Ryan Shumway had a big blow to put the Eagles ahead for good as he went 2-2, scored three times and drove in two. Ryan Diaz hit a two run homer in going 1-2, while scoring once and driving in two. Garland Norton was perfect going 1-1. Devin Greco went 1-3 and scored twice. Justin Wybenga also had a perfect day as he went 1-1, while scoring three times and driving in two. Travis Hansen had a 1-2 day, with a double and one RBI and Billy Howlett recorded his first hit of the season as he went 1-2, scored once and added one RBI!

Jacob Negrete started on the hill for the Eagles and went four innings, allowing seven runs on four hits while walking four and striking out two. Josh Peters releived Negrete in the fifth and picked up the win, as he went two innings surrendering one run on three hits, walking two and striking out one. KC Campbell releived Peters in the seventh and went two innings giving up no runs on one hit, walking one and striking out one. Robert Byers pitched the ninth for San Jacinto and gave up no runs, while allowing one hit, walking none and striking out one.

The Eagles will conclude their regular season schedule on Thursday, April 30, at 2:30 P.M., as they travel to Long Beach to take on Long Beach City College in a non-conference game.  The Eagles should find out on Saturday, May 2nd, who they will play in the State Playoffs!

San Jacinto got into the scoring column early as they scored six runs in the first, three in the second and one more in the third, to take a commanding 10-0 lead. The first inning saw San Jacinto pound out five hits as they sent ten men to the plate in the first frame. Antelope Valley managed to tag on three runs in the third; but could never muster enough punch to get back in the game.

Eagles Run Over Roadrunners Twice!

Overall Record:                 28-9

Conference Record:          17-4

After a disappointing loss on Thursday, to COD, the Eagles stormed back and handed the Roadrunners two Foothill Conference losses on Saturday, winning the first game 9-2 and taking the second game 7-2.

It was apparent that the effects of Thursday's loss, were still on the minds of the Eagles, as they started out flat in game one. The Eagles jumped out to a first inning 1-0 lead, but were quickly tied in the bottom of the first. The Roadrunners tacked on another run in the bottom of the second, to take a 2-1 lead, which would stand until the top of the sixth. Johnny Eshleman, got the Eagles going in the top of the sixth, as he singled to start the inning. Drew Madrigal followed Eshleman's single, with one of his own. Garrett Caldwell was walked to load the bases. Jeff Bunch, would get the key hit as he singled to drive in two of his three RBI for the game. Randy Bruce followed Bunch with a single to drive in Caldwell, and end the scoring for the sixth. When the dust had settled, the Eagles would find themselves claiming a 4-2 lead. The Eagles exploded in the seventh, as they would score five runs, with two outs, the big blow of the inning being Drew Madrigal's home run, his third hit of the game. The seventh was just icing on the cake, as the Roadrunners went quietly in their half of the seventh and gave San Jacinto the 9-2 win, which would establish a new school record for total wins for a season, as they recorded their twenty-seventh!!

Recording hits for the Eagles were Drew Madrigal, 3-4, including a home run, scoirng twice and driving in one, Jeff Bunch, 3-4 with a run scored and three RBI, Johnny Eshleman, 1-2, and scoring twice and Randy Bruce, 1-3, scoring once and driving one in.

BJ Salsbury, recorded his twelfth win of the season against one loss. Salsbury went six innings, giving up two runs on eight hits, while allowing five base on balls and striking out seven.  Josh Peters threw a perfect seventh as he allowed no runs on no hits, walked none and struck out one.

Game two, saw the Eagles get the lead in the first, scoring twice and never giving up the lead, as they marched to their twenty-eighth win of the season, as they downed COD 7-2.

Jacob Negrete threw a strong seven innings for the Eagles, recording his fifth win of the season. Negrete, was never really in trouble, although the Roadrunners did manage to knot the score in the fourth at two. Negrete, settled down and COD would never challenge again as the Eagles tacked on two more runs in the fifth, one in the sixth, one in the eighth and one more in the ninth for the win. Negrete went seven innings giving up two runs on eight hits, walking one and striking out five. KC Campbell, had another strong outing in relief as he went two innings, allowing no runs on no hits, walking none and striking out none.

Doing the damage with the lumber for San Jacinto were Johnny Eshleman 3-4, including a double, scoring once and driving in one. Drew Madrigal, who went 2-5 and drove in two  Anthony Smith, 2-4 and scoring  twice and Devin Greco, who had a 2-4 day including a run scored and an RBI.  Also getting hits for San Jacinto were Garrett Caldwell, Jeff Bunch and Josh Ray, who each had singles for the Eagles. The win improved The Jac's season record to 28-9 and their Conference leading record to 17-4!

The Eagles will conclude Foothill Conference play on Thursday, as they make the trek to Antelope Valley, to take on the Marauders in a 2:30 P.M. tilt.

Ninth Inning Homer Not Enough As Eagles Fall 3-2

Overall Record:                 26-9

Conference Record:          15-4

Garrett Caldwell's two run, ninth inning homer, was one run short, as the Eagles dropped a Foothill Conference game to College of the Desert 3-2. The normally hot hitting Eagles, were stymied by COD's starting pitcher and could muster only eight hits in the loss, with three of those coming in the final frame.

COD, scored all their runs in the third inning, following a miscue on a double play ball, which allowed the inning to stay alive.  The first run was scored on a two out steal of home, followed by a two run single. The three COD runs would prove too much for the Eagles to overcome.

Drew Madrigal tossed the complete game for San Jacinto, and took the loss, surrendering three runs on five hits, while walking three and striking out eleven.

Leading hitters for San Jacinto were Garrett Caldwell, who went 2-4, including his two run homer, Josh Ray, 2-4, Jeff Bunch 1-4, Anthony Smith 1-4, Drew Madrigal 1-3 and Johnny Eshleman 1-4. Madrigal and Caldwell each scored once and Caldwell was credited with two RBI.

San Jacinto will travel on Saturday, as they take on COD in a double header.  The first game is scheduled for 12:00 P.M., with the second game to follow.

Eagles Clipped By Palomar 7-3 To End Win Streak!

Overall Record:                26-8

Conference Record:         15-3

The Eagles twelve game winning streak came to an end on Wednesday, as they dropped a hard fought decision to Palomar 7-3. Both Palomar and San Jacinto, played excellent baseball as only one error was committed in the game; but the ball just seemed to bounce right for the Comets. Palomar pounded out nine hits, but only one hit, a home run, was something other then a ground ball. The Eagles hit the ball all day; but practically every ball hit was at someone.

The Eagles actually held a brief lead in the third inning, 1-0, but Palomar answered in the bottom half of the inning to go ahead 2-1. The Comets would never trail again, although the Eagles would stay within two runs, until the seventh, when Palomar hit a wind blown two run homer to take a 7-3 lead, which would hold up until the end of the game.

Hits were few for the Eagles, as they could muster only six for the contest. Anthony Smith and Johnny Eshleman each had two hits, as well as each player recording a double. Smith went 2-5, with two runs scored and one RBI. Eshleman had a 2-4 day at the plate. Drew Madrigal and Josh Ray each went 1-4 for the afternoon, with Madrigal tallying an RBI.

Starting and losing pitcher Drew Madrigal, went seven complete innings on the hill, allowing seven runs on eleven hits, while walking three and striking out five. Anthony Martinez releived Madrigal in the eighth and went one complete inning surrendering no runs on no hits, walking two and striking out two.

The Eagles next game will see them return to Foothill Conference Play as they take on College of the Desert in a 2:30 P.M. tilt on Thursday, April 16, at Mt. San Jacinto. The probable pitcher for that game will be Drew Madrigal.

Eagles Wake Up To Down Mesa 12-8

Overall Record:              26-7 (TIES THE ALL TIME SCHOOL RECORD FOR MOST WINS IN A SEASON!)

Conference Record:       15-3

After an emotional game on Tuesday, against Palomar, it was not out of the realm of possibility that the Eagles would come out flat for their game with Mesa College. The first four innings saw the Eagles strand seven men on base, including loading the bases twice, but they couldn't seem to get the key hit.  After four innings of play, the Eagles found themselves down 7-1 and searching for answers!

Starting San Jacinto pitcher, Jacob Negrete, struggled getting Mesa hitters out and found himself being releived by KC Campbell in the fourth, after giving up five runs in the fourth.  Campbell was just what The Jac needed as he shut down the Olympians and gave the Eagles a chance to get their bats going, and going is just what they did! The Eagles caught fire in the top of the fitfth, tallying five runs in the fifth, starting off with Drew Madrigal's single. Hits would follow from Jeff Bunch, Josh Ray, Justin Wybenga, Devin Greco and Johnny Eshleman, when the dust had settled, the Eagles would find their deficit gone and the score tied at seven! San Jacinto would tack on another run in the sixth, to take the lead for the first time in the game, 8-7. The lead would be short-lived as Campbell would give up a tying home run to Mesa in the seventh. The eighth was quiet for both teams; but the Eagles would once again explode in the ninth, as a lead off double by Devin Greco, would get a four run rally going and give the Eagles a commanding 12-8 lead and a lead they would hold until the last out was made!

Although San Jacinto would start out slowly for the first four innings getting only six hits, they would hammer out twelve more over the remaining five innings to secure the victory.  Jeff Bunch, Devin Greco and Johnny Eshleman, all had a monster day at the plate as Bunch would go 5-6, scoring once and driving in three. Devin Greco went 3-5 with two runs scored and drove in two and Eshleman went 4-6 with one RBI and scoring once. Bunch and Greco, each had doubles for the Jac, with Bunch's double driving in two big runs in the ninth and Greco, getting the ninth started with his double. Drew Madrigal went 2-5 and scored once and Anthony Smith, Randy Bruce, Josh Ray and Justin Wybenga, each had single hits for San Jacinto.

Jacob Negrete, was the starting pitcher for San Jacinto, going three and a third innings, allowing five runs on nine hits, walking two and striking out three. KC Campbell and Robert Byers each came in to do an outstanding job for The Jac in relief. Campbell went three and two-thirds innings allowing one run on one hit, walking none and striking out three. Robert Byers was credited with the win for the Eagles, his first of the season, going two innings, giving up no runs on two hits, walking one and striking out one.

The Eagles will play their final game of the Palomar Tournament on Thursday, as they have a rematch with Palomar, in a 2:00 P.M. game at Palomar.

Eagles Down SoCal's Number Two Team 4-3!

Overall Record:               25-7

Conference Record:        15-3

Another stellar pitching performance by BJ Salsbury, combined with key hits from Garrett Caldwell, Jeff Bunch and Anthony Smith, allowed the Eagles to down Southern California's number two ranked team 4-3 and extend the Eagles' winning streak to eleven games!

The game was a classic pitching and defensive struggle as both teams drew zeros for the first five full innings. Anthony Smith lead off the sixth, getting aboard on an error, Smith advanced to second on a fielder's choice, stole third and scored the game's first run, when Garrett Caldwell drove a hard single through the right side to score Smith.

The Jac, added four more runs in the seventh as Travis Hansen was hit by a pitch, Josh Ray sacrificed him to second and scored when Jeff Bunch laced a single to left. Devin Greco walked and both Bunch and Greco were driven home by Anthony Smith's scorching double down the left field line, providing Mt. San Jacinto with a 4-0 lead.

The Eagles had to hang on as the Comets tallied one in the seventh and two in the eighth; but solid defense and great pitching by Salsbury kept the Comets scoreless in inning nine and preserved the twenty-fifth victory of the season for the Eagles, against only seven defeats.

Hits were few and far between for both teams.  The normally potent San Jacinto offense was limited to six hits; but they made them count. Garrett Caldwell and Jeff Bunch each went 2-4. Caldwell had one RBI and Bunch scored once and drove in one. Anthony Smith and Johnny Eshleman each had a hit for the Eagles. Smith went 1-5, with a double, two RBI and scored once. Eshleman was 1-4.

BJ Salsbury went the distance for the Eagles improving his record to 11-1. Salsbury tallied ten strikeouts, while walking three and allowing three runs on five hits.

The Eagles will continue play on Wednesday, in the Palomar Tournament, as they will travel to San Diego Mesa, to take on the Olympians in a 1:00 P.M. tilt. Scheduled to pitch in that game will be Jacob Negrete.

Eagles Down Wolverines Twice For Three Game Sweep!

Conference Record:       15-3

Mt. San Jacinto clubbed 39 hits and scored 31 runs in their double header sweep of San Bernardino, to extend their winning streak to ten consecutive games and their league leading Conference record to 15-3, as they downed the Wolverines 12-0 in the first game and 19-6 in the late game.

In game one, the Eagles left no doubt that they were on a mission, as they jumped on San Bernardino for one run in the second, another run in the third and then hung an eight spot in the fourth and two more in the sixth, to tally their twelve runs. San Bernardino could never get anything started as Drew Madrigal pitched the complete game shutout allowing no runs on two hits while striking out eight and walking three. The normally potent San Bernardino offense could muster only seven runners for the game and no runner ever got past second base! Madrigal picked up the win for the Eagles improving his overall record to 7-2.

Johnny Eshleman, Josh Ray and Devin Greco, each had huge games at the plate as Eshleman went 4-4, with a double and scored twice, Ray also had a double in his 3-4 game, scoring twice and driving in one and Greco had three singles, scoring once and driving in one. Drew Madrigal, Garrett Caldwell and Justin Wybenga, each had singles for San Jac, with Madrigal driving in one and scoring once, Caldwell scoring once and Wybenga scroing once and driving in two.

Game two, was almost a carbon copy of game one, except the Eagles found that they had a lot more hits in their bats and more runs to score, as they hammered out 21 hits and scored 19 runs enroute to their twenty-fourth win of the season!

Jacob Negrete, got the start for the Eagles and went six solid innings to record his fourth win of the season against no losses. Negrete allowed five runs on seven hits, while walking two and striking out two. Robert Byers pitched one complete inning allowing no runs on no hits while striking out none and walking none. Larry Gibson pitched the eight inning giving up no runs on no hits, striking out none and walking none. Josh Peters closed the game going one inning and allowing one run on three hits, while walking none and striking out one.

Conference Record:           13-3

The Eagles continued to pound the ball as they accounted for fifteen hits, including doubles by Garrett Caldwell, Josh Ray and Justin Wybenga. The game was tight for the first three innings and at one time, the Eagles were behind 2-1, but San Jacinto came roaring back scoring two in the fourth, four in the fifth and one in the sixth, to take an 8-2 lead and a lead they would never surrender.

BJ Salsbury, had another strong game as he went the distance to record his ninth win, against only one defeat. Salsbury gave up four runs on six hits and walked three, while striking out thirteen. Salsbury tired some at the end; but had enough to record the complete game.

Eagles Hang on For 7-6 Win!

Overall Record:                   21-7

Conference Record:            12-3

The Eagles, once again had to come from behind and then hold on, to record their twenty-first victory of the season and their seventh win in a row, as they downed Compton College 7-6 on Tuesday.

Some sloppy fielding in the first and second innings put the Eagles behind 2-0, but they managed to score three in the third to take a 3-2 lead. Compton, tied the game in the fifth and went ahead 5-3 at the end of six and a half. Anthony Smith's home run in the bottom of the seventh ignited a four run outburst that allowed the Eagles to take a 7-5 lead. Compton, pushed across one run in the top of the ninth to narrow the score to 7-6 and had the potential tying run on first, but Larry Gibson closed the door to gvie the Eagles the hard fought win.

San Jacinto managed thirteen hits with Anthony Smith contributing three of them, one being his home run, Smith also tallied two runs and one RBI. Johnny Eshleman accounted for two hits, in a 2-5 day, scoring once and driving in one RBI. Justin Wybenga had two hits and one RBI. Comeback Helps Extend Win Streak to Six!

Overall Record:                     20-7

Conference Record:              12-3

Devin Greco's clutch one out single in the seventh, tied the game and Garrett Caldwell's double in the seventh drove in two, two power the Eagles to a come from behind, 6-3 victory over Victor Valley in game one and propelling San Jacinto to a doulbe header sweep of the Rams, extending the Eagles winning streak to five games.

The Eagles' bats had been silent for most of the game as they could muster only one run on four hits, entering the sixth inning. In the sixth, with the Eagles down 3-1 and things not looking good, the Eagles combined a single by Randy Bruce  along with one of two of Garrett Caldwell's doulbes, to narrow the score to 3-2. The top of the seventh lead off with a bang as BJ Salsbury singled and was sacrificed to second by Josh Ray. Devin Greco shot a scorching single to left, scoring Adrian Huizar, who had run for Salsbury. Travis Hansen walked, Johnny Eshleman was hit by a pitch, to load the bases, Randy Bruce walked and scored Greco. Garrett Caldwell came to the plate and for the second time in a row doubled to drive in two and conclude the scoring for San Jacinto. Game two was a lot easier on the blood pressure as the Eagles pounded out fifteen hits, including a monster home run by Josh Ray, to down Victor Valley 11-1 and improve their season record to 20-7 and their Conference record to 12-3.

Drew Madrigal was credited with the win as he went six innings, giving up no runs on only one hit while walking two and striking out six. Eagles Claw Rams 12-2

Overall Record:                     18-7

Conference Record:               10-3

Although the game started out a little slow and for a time, it appeared that the Eagles might have their talons full, when all was finished, the Eagles had improved their season record to 18-7 and their Conference record to 10-3, with a 12-2 triumph over visiting Victor Valley.

The Rams managed to jump out to a 1-0 lead in the first, comibining an infield single with two more singles to take the lead. San Jacinto came back in the second to tie the game up and then the Eagle bats found their wings, as they went on to score in the third, fifth, sixth and seventh innings, while pounding out nineteen hits to capture the victory.

Eagles Use Broom On Coyotes 2-1 & 6-5

Overall Record:                  17-7

Conference Record:             9-3

Mt. San Jacinto, made it a clean sweep of Cerro Coso, with double header wins of 2-1 and 6-5.  The two victories on Saturday, combined with a single game win on Thursday, gave the Eagles a three and zero record against the Coyotes to take the season series.

Both games turned out to be nail biters, as the usually potent offense of the Eagles, was silent for most of the day.  Game one never seemed to get going for San Jacinto, as they could manage only six hits, which were spread out over the seven inning contest.  After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, the Eagles waited until the fourth to mount an attack. Drew Madrigal, lead off the fourth with a single, which was followed by a single for Garrett Caldwell. Jeff Bunch then lofted a ball to left center, which was misplayed, driving in Madrigal. Anthony Smith singled to load the bases. A fielder's choice cut down Caldwell at the plate and a passed ball, allowed Bunch to score, accounting for the second run of the inning and all the runs the Eagles would get or need.

Justin Wybenga, went 1-3 with a double, Drew Madrigal was 1-3, with a run scored, Garrett Caldwell had a 2-3 game with a double and Anthony Smith was 1-3, as was Jeff Bunch, who had a 1-3 game, with an RBI.

Drew Madrigal, had another fine outing as he went the distance to post his fifth win of the season against two defeats. Madrigal gave up one earned run on six hits, walked one and struck out 12.

Game two, was much the same as game one, although the Eagles did show more muscle as they pounded out eleven hits, on their way to a 6-5 drubbing of Cerro Coso.

Once again, the Coyotes jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first. San Jacinto countered with two in the third and four in the fourth; but had to hold on as Cerro Coso tallied twice in the sixth and twice again in the ninth, stranding the potential tying run on third as the game ended.

Jacob Negrete, made his second start of the season on the mound for the Eagles, as he went six solid innings, allowing three runs on six hits, while walking one and striking out ten. Larry Gibson, releived Negrete in the seventh and went two and a third innings, allowing two earned runs on no hits, walking two and hitting three, while striking out three. Robert Byers threw a third of an inning, giving up no runs on one hit. Byers was releived by BJ Salsbury, who came in to record the final out of the game and claim the save.

Offensive punch was provided by Johnny Eshleman, who had a 4-4 day, scoring once and driving in one. Drew Madrigal went 2-5, with a triple and RBI. Jeff Bunch was 3-4, with a run scored. Anthony Smith and Devin Greco, each had a hit for the Eagles. Smith was credited with a doulble and RBI and a run scored, while Greco tallied a run for the Eagles.

The Eagles will host Victor Valley on Thursday, in a 2:30 P.M. Foothill Conference game against the Rams.

Eagles Claw Coyotes 17-4

Overall Record:               15-7

Conference Record:          7-3

It was a long ride up and a long ride back; but Mt. San Jacinto made the most of it as they pounded out twenty-two hits, including a three run home run by Drew Madrigal, enroute to a 17-4 victory over Cerro Coso College, in a Foothill Conference game on Thursday.

After a quiet first inning for both teams, the Eagles caught fire in the second, scoring six runs in the inning.  The game would see Mt. San Jacinto, score at least one run in every inning but the first, sixth and eighth.

BJ Salsbury, once again proved why he is one of the most dominant pitchers in Junior College Baseball, as he went eight of the nine innings, allowing four runs, two earned, while striking out thirteen and walking only three, earning his sixth victory of the season, his third in Foothill Conference play. Salsbury, was never in trouble; but did tire in the eighth and was releived by Josh Peters in the ninth. Peters, pitched a perfect ninth, allowing no runs on no hits, walking none and striking out one.

Mt. San Jacinto continues to show why it is so dangerous, as they continued to pound the ball. Drew Madrigal, had a solid day going 3-4, including his three run homer in the second, scoring twice and driving in three. Josh Ray, had an outstanding day at the dish, going 4-6 and scoring four times. Anthony Smith, went 4-5, including a double, scoring twice and driving in two. Devin Greco was 2-3, scoirng twice and driving in five.  Jeff Bunch continued his solid offensive exploits going 3-6, with a double, one RBI and scoring twice. Johnny Eshleman, could have easily had a four for six day, as he was robbed twice and ended up going 2-6, with two RBI and scoring once. Justin Wybenga, Chris Houston and Ryan LeFevre, each had one hit apiece, with LeFevre scoring twice and Wybenga crossing the plate once.

The Eagles will continue Foothill Conference play on Saturday, as they will play a double header against Cerro Coso, at Mt. San Jacinto. The first game is scheduled for 12:30, with the second game to follow.

Eagles Split With Rio Hondo

Overall Record:                  14-7

Conference Record:             6-3

If you are old enough to remember the television series, "Home Run Derby", you might have thought you had been transported back in time and were watching the Eagles' hitters competing on that program!  Game one, was an example of the explosive power that San Jacinto has in their line up, as they hammered six home runs, including a back-to-back-to back barrage in the fourth inning enroute to a 7-1 pounding of host Rio Hondo.

San Jacinto jumped to an early 1-0 lead in the third, as Ryan LeFevre hit a solo shot to right field.  The rest of the Eagles got the idea and in the fourth, after a Garrett Caldwell single, Randy Bruce, hit a laser over right field, followed by Anthony Smith's blast to left, which in turn was followed by Jeff Bunch's blast to left-center. The Eagles continued their onslaught in the fifth, as Johnny Eshleman drove a ball out of left, which was followed by a left field shot by Drew Madrigal. When the dust had settled, the Eagles had tacked on seven runs, which was all they would need in capturing their fourteenth win of the season and their sixth in Foothill Conference play.

The Eagles tallied eleven hits in the game with Justin Wybenga going 1-4, Johnny Eshleman 1-4, with a run scored and one driven in on his home run, Drew Madrigal 2-4, scoring once and driving in one with his home run, Garrett Caldwell 1-3, scoring once, Randy Bruce 2-4 scoring once and driving in one with his blast, Anthony Smith 2-3, driving in one and scoring one, Jeff Bunch 1-3, with an RBI and a run scored on his homer and Ryan Lefevre 1-3 with an RBI and run scored.

BJ Salsbury, went the distance for The Jac on the mound, as he once again dominated, giving up only one run on six hits, while walking one and striking out six.

Game two, proved to be a heartbreaker for the Eagles, as they once again got out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the third, only to see the Roadrunners tally three in their half of the third. Walks, combined with some costly errors, allowed Rio Hondo to increase their lead to 7-1. The Eagles narrowed the score to 7-2 in the fifth and it remained 7-2, going into the eighth, when the Eagles mounted a charge, scoring five runs, the big blast being a three run homer to left by Josh Ray, to knot the score at seven. Rio Hondo lead off the ninth with a walk and that runner would eventually score on a suicide squeeze play to end the game and give Rio Hondo the 8-7 victory.

The Eagles once again hit the ball hard, as they pounded out eleven hits; but their early inning miscues cost them dearly. Justin Wybenga had a 1-3 game, driving in one. Johnny Eshleman, continued his hot hitting as he went 2-5, including a triple, driving in one and scoring once. Randy Bruce, who is also on a terror, went 3-4, scoring once and adding an RBI. Josh Ray, had a 1-4 game, with his three run homer accounting for three RBI, Jeff Bunch, capped his day going 3-4, with a double and two RBI and Devin Greco, went 1-3.

Jacob Negrete, got his first start of the season going three and a third innings, giving up six runs on seven hits, while walking four and striking out one. Larry Gibson, went an inning giving up a run on a hit, while walking three and striking out two. Losing pitcher Robert Byers went three and a third innings, giving up a run on one hit while walking only one and striking out four. KC Campbell tallied a third of an inning, giving up a hit and a walk.

The Eagles will travel to Cerro Coso on Thursday, at 2:30 P.M.

Eagles Run Over Roadrunners

Overall Record:                      13-6

Conference Record:                 5-2

Drew Madrigal threw a three hit complete game shutout and the Eagles pounded out ten hits, as Mt. San Jacinto defeated Rio Hondo 6-0 in a Foothill Conference game on Thursday.

The Eagles were never threatened as solid defense, no errors, combined with outstanding pitching and some key base hits, allowed the Eagles to gain their fifth Conference win, against two defeats.

Justin Wybenga, had an outstanding day at the plate as he went 2-3, including a triple, drove in one and scored one. Wybenga also had an outstanding defensive play in the fifth, as he snared a sinking line drive in centerfield and doubled the base runner off first.

The hits were spread evenly throughout the Eagle line up as eight of the nine Eagle' hitters accounted for hits. Johnny Eshleman went 1-4 and scored a run, Drew Madrigal also had a 1-4 day doubling and driving in two, Garret Caldwell was 1-3, with an RBI, Jeff Bunch 1-4, a double and a run scored, Anthony Smith 1-4, Devin Greco 1-2, scoring once and driving in one and Ryan LeFevre 1-3 and scoring twice.

Drew Madrigal was vitually unhittable as he went the distance allowing no runs on three hits, while walking three and striking out eleven Rio Hondo hitters. Madrigal got the win, improving his season record to 4-2.

The Eagles will travel to Rio Hondo on Saturday, for a double header, with the first game beginning at noon.

Eagles Divide Pair With Chaffey

Overall Record:              12-6

Conference Record:         4-2

The Eagles can take some solace in that they came out of Saturday's double header with a split, winning the first game 5-2 and dropping the second game.

Mt. San Jacinto played an outstanding game in game one, as BJ Salsbury had another outstanding outing for the Eagles, going the distance, allowing two runs on three hits, while walking only one and striking out eight. The Eagles played a solid defensive game behind Salsbury as they committed no errors.

Mt. San Jacinto, tallied all of their runs in the second and third innings, scoring three in the second, on a bases clearing double by Ryan Lefevre and two in the third with Jeff Bunch and Randy Bruce, each driving in solo runs with hits. Hitting stars for game one were Johnny Eshleman, 2-4, and scoring once, Drew Madrigal 1-3, with a run scored. Randy Bruce, who doubled and drove in a run going 1-2, Jeff Bunch 1-2, driving in one and scoring one, Anthony Smith, 1-3 and scoring once, Devin Greco 1-2 and scoring once and Ryan LeFevre, 1-3 with a double and driving in three.

The winning pitcher was BJ Salsbury, who brought his season record to 5-1 and his Conference record to 2-0.

Game two is a game that we all want to forget! It was not an example of the Eagles' abilities as players. An agreement was made with the team that we would not discuss this game, other then to say we lost!  Enough Said!

The Eagles will play their next game at home on Thursday, March 12, at 2:30 P.M. as they take on Rio Hondo.

Eagles Come Up Short 13-12

Overall Record:             11-5

Conference Record:        3-1

Mt. San Jacinto, kept coming back; but in the end, the Eagles fell one run short as they lost a Foothill Conference game to Chaffey 13-12 on Thursday at Chaffey.

The Eagles jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first; but as was the case in the Citrus game, their inability to drive in runners cost them, as they left the bases loaded in the first and left a total of sixteen runners stranded for the day.

The Eagles had been down by as many as five runs twice in the game, both times fighting back to get within two; but never seeming to be able to catch the Panthers.  In the ninth inning it looked as though Mt. San Jacinto would tie the game and perhaps go ahead, as they got two runners on base with nobody out. The Eagles were able to get the first runner home; but left the potential tying run on third as the final two Eagle hitters struck out.

San Jacinto continued it's torrid hitting, pounding out nineteen hits! Jeff Bunch had a fine day at the plate, as he went 4-6, including a three run homer in the seventh, to bring the Eagles within two. Bunch also had two singles and a lead off ninth inning double, which resulted in Bunch scoring the final Eagle run.  Josh Ray, went 3-6, with a double and an RBI and a run scored. Eagles Sweep Barstow To Start Conference!

Overall Record:            11-4

Conference Record:       3-0

The Eagles left no doubt that they are a force to be taken seriously as they swept Barstow in a Saturday double header, winning the first game 19-0 and taking the second game 9-3, to go 3-0 in Foothill Conference play.

In game one, the stellar pitching of BJ Salsbury, combined with the offensive power of Johnny Eshleman and a host of other Eagles, proved too much for Barstow to handle.

Salsbury, continued his outstanding pitching as he went the seven inning distance, giving up no runs on two hits, while walking one and striking out fourteen. Salsbury was never in any trouble throughout the game as he gained his fourth victory of the year against one loss

The San Jacinto bats were alive and potent as they pounded out nineteen runs on seventeen hits, including four home runs and six doubles. Johnny Eshleman lead the hit parade as he went 4-5, scoring four runs and driving in four. Eshleman slammed a two run homer in the third, his first of two home runs on the day, to put the Eagles up 3-0. Randy Bruce continued his hot hitting as he went 3-3, scoring twice, driving in four and contributing a double and a two run home run. Drew Madrigal went 2-3, scoring twice, driving in three and adding a double. Anthony Smith had multiple hits as he tacked on a 2-5 day, scoring twice and accounting for two RBI. Smith powered a double and a solo home run in the seventh. Other Eagles who joined the hit column were Justin Wybenga, 1-5, scoring twice. Ryan Shumway, 1-1, a three run homer. Josh Ray, who went 1-4 and scored twice. Chris Houston, 1-1, a double and driving in one. Jeff Bunch, 1-3 with a double and a run scored. Completing the offense was Ryan LeFevre, who went 1-3, scoring twice and slamming a double.

Game two was a little bit more difficult then the score would suggest as the Eagles held a shaky 5-3 lead after five innings of play. The top of the sixth allowed the Eagles some breathing room as they added another three runs, one provided by Ryan Shumway's run scoring single and two more, courtesy of Drew Madrigal's two run homer. The Eagles managed to tack on another run in the eighth to put the game away for good, as the Eagles completed the sweep by recording their 9-3 victory.

Anthony Martinez, started on the mound for Mt. San Jacinto and went four and two thirds innings, giving up all three runs on six hits, three walks and two hit batsmen, while striking out three. Newcomer, Jacob Negrete, came on to relieve Martinez in the bottom of the fourth, with two outs and the bases loaded. Negrete proceeded to strike out the Barstow hitter to end the Barstow threat in the fourth. Negrete threw three and a third innings, giving up no runs on no hits, while walking one, hitting two and striking out six. Cory Robbins, pitched the first two thirds of the ninth, allowing no runs on no hits, while walking none and striking out one. Josh Peters closed it out for San Jacinto, as he pitched a third of an inning, allowing no runs on no hits, while striking out none and walking none. Martinez was credited with the win for the Eagles.

Mt. San Jacinto managed to pound out fourteen hits, including two home runs, one triple and three doubles. Hitting stars for San Jacinto were Drew Madrigal, 3-4, scoring one, driving in two and contributing one of the two home runs tallied by the Eagles. Travis Hansen 3-5, including a double and triple. One Hitter Highlights Eagles Opener Over Barstow !

Overall Record:                9-4

Conference Record:          1-0

Drew Madrigal, came within one inning of recording the team's second no-hitter of the season; but had to settle for a one hitter, as the Eagles downed Barstow, in the League opener for both teams, 11-2.

Madrigal pitched a strong eight innings, recording no runs on one hit, while striking out fourteen and walking three, en route to his third victory of the season, against one loss.  Madrigal was cruising through seven innings, but with one out in the eighth, Iggy Wagner, of Barstow, shot a solid single to right, to break up the no-no! Madrigal, was given the opportunity to try for the no-hitter, but once the hit was surrendered, Madrigal, gave way to Robert Byers, who pitched the ninth inning. Byers, went the ninth, giving up two runs on no hits, while walking one and striking out one. Poor fielding by the Eagles in the ninth, combined with the walk, accounted for the two Barstow runs.

The Eagles bats came alive in the game, as they recorded sixteen hits, including a double each to Drew Madrigal and Anthony Smith.  Although the Eagles stranded fifteen runners, they did combine several hits at key moments to drive in ten.

Doing the damage for San Jacinto, were Anthony Smith, who went 3-4, including a double and scoring twice. Justine Wybenga, 2-5, with a run scored and two driven in. Johnny Eshleman, 2-5, with two runs scored and one RBI. Drew Madrigal, 2-4, with a double, one run scored and one driven in, Josh Ray, 2-5 with an RBI and Ryan Shumway, Garrett Caldwell, Devin Greco, BJ Salsbury and Ryan LeFevre, who each had a hit for San Jacinto. Shumway, was credited with an RBI, as was Alex Araiza and Devin Greco, while Caldwell accounted for two RBI.

The Eagles will play Barstow, again on Saturday, as they travel to the desert town for a double header, with the first game scheduled at 11:00 A.M. B.J. Salsbury, is scheduled to pitch the opener, while Anthony Martinez is slated for the night cap.

Wheels Come Off As Eagles Slammed 18-4 !

Overall Record:             8-4

Conference Record:      0-0

If Monday's contest could have been scheduled for five innings, everything would have been great. Unfortunately for the Eagles, the game went nine innings and from the sixth inning on it was a disaster for Mt. San Jacinto, as they fell 18-4 to Saddleback, in a non-conference match.

San Jacinto, had taken a 2-0 lead in the top of the second on Josh Ray's single and BJ Salsbury's single; but Saddleback, was right back in it in the bottom of the frame, as they scored three.  The Eagles tied the game up in the top of the fifth, with Salsbury doubling, followed by a Alex Araiza's double; but once again the Gauchos fought back tacking on another three spot in their half of the fifth. Although the Eagles found themselves down by two, after five innings, a victory was still within reach for San Jacinto, but then things got ugly! Eagles' pitching had struggled some early in the game, as Anthony Martinez and Raul Gonzales, couldn't seem to hold the Gauchos in check. However, the remainder of the Eagles' pitchers also stuggled with control as the entire pitching staff combined to walk eight, hit seven Gauchos and surrender thirteen hits, when combined with five Eagle errors, all occuring after the fifth, San Jacinto did not stand much of a chance.

The Eagles could muster only seven hits for the game, their lowest offensive output of the season! Justin Wybenga, Josh Ray and BJ Salsbury, each had two hits for the afternoon. Salsbury had a 2-2 day, one of which was a double. Salsbury, also scored twice. Ray went 2-3, with a run scored and Wybenga, was 2-5 in the game. The only other hit for the Eagles was by Alex Araiza, who was 1-3, with a double and an RBI. Anthony Smith, also had two RBI for the game.

Seeing duty on the mound for the Eagles was starting and losing pitcher Anthony Martinez, Raul Gonzales, Robert Byers, Michael Crain, Josh Peters, Larry Gibson and KC Campbell.

The Eagles will open Foothill Conference play on Thursday, with a 2:00 P.M. game against Barstow, at San Jacinto

Valiant Comeback Falls Short As Eagles Lose To Citrus 9-6

Overall Record:            8-3

Conference Record:      0-0

The Eagles fought back from a 9-2 deficit in the seventh by scoring three in the seventh and one in the eighth, loading the bases in the eighth with nobody out only to fall short as they fell to the Citrus Owls 9-6!

It was a well played game by both teams; but the Owls, managed to bunch their hits with runners on and the Eagles didn't.  Citrus left a total of two men stranded, while the Eagles left twelve hanging.

San Jacinto had jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a line drive home run by Greg Anzures. The Owls fought back with four in the third, one in the fifth and four more in the sixth, which proved to be too much for The Eagles to overcome.

San Jacinto's bats remained hot as they pounded out ten hits, including Anzures' homer and a triple by Travis Hansen.  Anzures, was 2-5 for the day with a run scored and a run batted in. Travis Hansen was 2-3 for the day. Drew Madrigal had a solid afternoon going 2-5, scoring twice and driving in two. Josh Ray was 1-4, with an RBI and a run scored. Anthony Smith, was 1-2 with an RBI. Jeff Bunch was 1-1, with a walk and a run scored. Randy Bruce went 1-4.

Starting and losing pitcher BJ Salsbury, suffered his first loss of the season, as he went five complete innings, giving up all thirteen Owl hits. Salsbury was credited with one walk and struck out five. Michael Crain, releived Salsbury in the sixth and lasted two-thirds of an inning, giving up three walks, one of which was intentional, while allowing no runs and striking out none. Cory Robbins, finished the game for Mt. San Jacinto, going two and a third strong innings. Robbins inherited a bases loaded situation in the sixth; but retired the side, allowing no runs to score. In Robbins two and a thirds innings of work, he allowed no runs on no hits, while walking none and striking out one.

The Eagles will hit the road again on Monday, as they travel to Saddleback College, to take on the Gauchos in a 2:00 P.M. contest.

Eagles Stumble in 12-5 Loss To Palomar

Overall Record:            8-2

Conference Record:      0-0

Four errors proved costly, as they lead to six unearned runs resulting in the second loss of the season, as the Eagles fell to Palomar 12-5.

The Eagles did not get off to a good start as the Comets tallied four runs in the top of the first on three hits. Normally dominating Eagles' pitcher, Drew Madrigl, couldn't seem to get into a groove with his curveball forcing him to rely on his fastball and it just didn't seem to be enough as Madrigal could only complete four innings of work, allowing seven hits, while walking three and striking out a season low six hitters.

The Eagles have been struggling defensively giving up eleven unearned runs over the course of the last four games! San Jacinto kept up with the Comets offensively and could have easily been in the game, as they pounded out nine hits, to Palomar's ten; but they couldn't overcome their defensive lapses!

Justin Wybenga, had an outstanding day at the plate for The Jac, as he went 3-4, driving in two and scoring once. Johnny Eshleman, Drew Madrigal, Randy Bruce, Josh Ray and Ryan LeFevre, each had a hit for San Jacinto. LeFevre's hit was a triple, while Greco's single resulted in two runs being driven in.

Robert Byers, relieved Madrigal in the fifth and did an outstanding job going two and two-thirds innings, allowing  two runs, one unearned, on two hits, while walking none and striking out five. Larry Gibson, went one and a third innings, giving up no runs on no hits, walking one and striking out none. Josh Peters closed in out for the Eagles, going one inning, giving up two runs, one earned, while walking none and striking out one.

The Eagles will travel to Citrus tomorrow, for a 2:00 P.M. game with the Owls.

No-Hitter Takes Front Stage in Eagles' Sweep!

Overall Record:                    8-1

Conference Record:             0-0

B.J. Salsbury tossed a no-hitter in the first game of a double header with Imperial Valley and helped to lead the Eagles to a 7-0 victory over the visiting Arabs!

Salsbury, was in control from the first inning and almost threw a perfect game, if not for a throwing error on the first play.  No other runner reached base for the duration of the contest.  Salsbury was never in trouble and only fell behind in the count to two hitters for the entire game.  Only seven balls were hit by the Arabs and all but one, were routine plays!

The first game was a seven inning contest and during that span, Salsbury gave up no runs on no hits, walked none and struck out nine!  Salsbury's complete game effort resulted in his third win of the season, with no losses and improved the Eagles' season record to 7-1.

The Eagles managed only seven hits for the game, with Josh Ray providing much of the punch as he went 3-3, with two triples, scoring twice and driving in two. Randy Bruce also had a solid offensive game going 2-4, with an RBI. Devin Greco was 1-4, with an RBI and run scored and Anthony Smith finished off the offense with a 1-4 outing.

The story of the game offensively was Travis Hansen, as he had a perfect day at the plate going 4-4, with two triples and a double.  Hansen scored two runs and drove in three. Hansen also had an outstanding defensive play early in the game, which helped to keep the Arabs lead at 1-0.

Drew Madrigal and Josh Ray, continued their hot hitting as Madrigal had a 3-4 day, with two RBI and Ray went 2-5 with a run scored and one driven in.  Greg Anzures had a triple, scored twice and drove in one, en route to a 1-4 day. Christopher Houston was 2-4, with an RBI, Jeff Bunch was 1-4, with a run scored, Ryan LeFevre doubled and scored once, going 1-3 and Ryan Shumway was 1-5.

Eagles Suffer First Defeat 4-3 In Extra Innings!

Overall Record:                6-1

Conference Record:         0-0

It was probably bound to happen; but it was fun while it lasted! The Mt. San Jacinto Eagles, felt the taste of defeat for the first time this season, as they fell 4-3, in eleven innings, to the Mt. San Antonio Mounties.

The first inning looked promising for the Eagles, when Drew Madrigal deposited a home run to left field to put the Eagles up 1-0.  The lead was short lived as the Mounties tacked on one of their four unearned runs in the bottom of the first, to knot the score up at one. San Antonio tacked on another run in the second to gain the lead 2-1. The score remained 2-1 into the fourth; but a lead off double by Devin Greco, followed by an infield hit by Anthony Smith and then a base hit by Justin Wybenga, tied the score at two. The score remained tied into the bottom of the seventh, when with two outs, a Mounties player reached first on a hit by pitch a single advanced him to third and a passed ball allowed him to score and give the Mounties a 3-2 lead. The Eagles managed to comeback in the ninth as Garret Caldwell singled and was pinch run for by Travis Hansen, Randy Bruce singled, allowing Hansen to reach third and Johnny Eshleman doubled driving in Hansen with the tying run. The inning was ended with a strikeout and the go ahead run on third. The Mounties managed to seal the win with an eleventh inning triple, to lead off the inning and a throwing error to allow the winning run to score.

Mt. San Jacinto, once again had hot bats; but unlike their six previous games, many of their hits came with either nobody on, or runners who were not in scoring positon.

The leading hitters for San Jacinto were; Johnny Eshleman, 2-5, with a double and RBI, Drew Madrigal, 2-4, with a home run, RBI and run scored, Justin Wybenga 2-5 with an RBI, Devin Greco 1-5, with a run scored, Garret Caldwell 1-3, Anthony Smith 1-5, Jeff Bunch 1-3 and Randy Bruce 1-1.

Eagles Clobber Cubs 15-6

Overall Record:          3-0

Conference Record:    0-0

For a time, it seemed as though the Eagles were going to stay stuck on scoring fourteen runs per game; but they managed to push across the fifteenth run in the top of the ninth, to gain a 15-6 victory and hand them their third straight win of the season!

Once again, the Eagles' bats were alive as they managed to pound out 22 hits including a triple by Josh Ray and a bases clearing double by Greg Anzures, as they defeated the Los Angeles City College Cubs for the second time in four days.

The Eagles jumped out to a quick six run lead in the first inning and managed to add single runs in the second, third and fifth innings, as well as two runs in the seventh and three in the eighth. The Cubs did create some noise in the third inning, scoring a run and again in the fourth inning, tacking on five; but that was all they would get as solid pitching by Michael Crain, Cory Robbins and KC Campbell, totally shut down any hopes that the Cubs might have of victory.

Multiple hits were many as Johnny Eshleman went 3-5 and scored twice, Josh Ray was 5-5, scoring three times and tacking on a stolen base for good measure, Drew Madrigal was 4-4, scoring three and driving in two, Jeff Bunch went 3-4, with an RBI, Garrett Caldwell was 2-5 and scored twice and  Greg Anzures who went 2-4, with a double and five RBI. San Jacinto jumped out to a quick 2-0 in the top of the first; but saw that advantage vanish in the bottom of the second, as Compton tallied three times to take a 3-2 lead. The Tartars tacked on another run in the bottom of the third to extend their lead to 4-2.
